How Do I Find The Value Of Antiques?

Hi,

We are in need of some help, we are busy emptying my partner’s uncle’s house. He has hoarding tendencies and will not be returning to live at the property, and we need it emptied, cleaned, and ready to be sold. My partner has been there for almost two weeks or so collecting items with sentimental and possibly monetary value for his uncle.

We are unsure how best to proceed (whether we just dispose of absolutely everything or take the time and spend the money to have items of value sold/donated etc).

It would be great if we could find a reliable online service for antiques appraisal and valuation, any advice or suggestions appreciate, thank you, Sheila Dawson.

  1. Hi Sheila, we recently cleared our late mums home, we found many things during the clear out that had potential value. We used an online appraisal service called antiqueappraisals.net

We got a surprise at the value of some pieces, especially a small silver cup which we honestly thought was worthless. The valuation fee more than paid for its self and worth paying as the last thing you want to do is sell something too cheap.

We sold the junk at a yard sale and the better items identified and valued by antiqueappraisals.net we sold to a dealer for a very good price.

Anyway good luck with the clearance as I know from personal experience how daunting it can be, especially if the home is hoarded.

  2. Sheila, there is only really one good online antique appraisal services in my experience. I work for a large nationwide realtor, and we often get tasked with recommending online antique appraisal services for our clients, and we only ever recommend antiqueappraisals.net

  3. Hey Sheila, google antiqueappraisals.net, have used them in the past without issue, alternatively if you’re looking for a free service try searching for an antique discussion forum and post a picture of your item, I am sure there will be antique dealers on these forums that will give you some free advice.

Good luck with the clear out.
